LCMS Campus Ministry Sunday 2011

In 2009 The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod designated the Sunday after Thanksgiving LCMS Campus Ministry Sunday. Congregations are invited to celebrate the important ministry that Lutheran campus ministries do among our congregations' students and in the campus communities around them. In 2011, LCMS Campus Ministry Sunday will be observed on November 27.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has been involved in ministry on college and university campuses since the 1920s. Currently, more than 200 dedicated LCMS ministries, 400 contact ministries, 90 International Student Ministry, Inc. ministries, and 200 chapters of Lutheran Student Fellowship are committed to the spiritual growth of Christian students and outreach to students, faculty, staff, and others in the campus community who need to know Jesus.

How much work is there to do? A lot! With more than 4,300 colleges and universities across the country, around 20% of LCMS-member students currently being served by ministries on campus, and many non-believers among the roughly 18 million U.S. and international students enrolled in post-secondary programs, the mission we are called to is prodigious.

But God is blessing his ministries on campus, and you can help celebrate the blessing—and increase it—by participating in LCMS Campus Ministry Sunday.
